The Waiting Game

I know that I did the right thing by going on maternity leave a month before my baby is due. I thank my lucky stars I had the insight not to book anything this month. I actually feel great and sometimes even forget that I'm 9 months pregnant...until I go outside. So, here I sit in front of my computer, wrapping up loose ends and enjoying the few weeks of semi-freedom that I have left.

If all goes well (meaning baby stays put), Darla Roze Photography will be getting a make-over in the next few weeks. So stay tuned.

Itty Bitty Soccer

I remember thinking in the middle of winter. I cant wait for summer when I can just send Rio outside to play...but because it's so hot during the day I only make him go out in the evenings. That is where Itty Bitty Soccer has saved the day! It is the cutest thing. Kids running every direction. Too funny but Rio thought it was the best thing EVER. Of course my kid was the most talented (wink wink). He scored 3 goals in the last game...too bad only two of them were in the correct goal.

Hot! Hot! Hot! (And I'm not talking about the pregnancy heat waves I experiance hourly). I have been so blessed with the coolest clients lately. These two are so much fun. They found the most unique location for their engagement shoot and I LOVE IT. The plan was to meet downtown and do an urban shoot but last minute they got access to this AMAZING apartment that looks like it should be in New York. They wanted unique and they got it. I cant wait for bridals this fall.

So, anyone who knows my son knows that I have my hands full. He is just full of IT. IT being personality, ENERGY, attitude, MORE ENERGY, humor. He plays rough and I am constantly saying sorry to other children and their mothers for his reckless behavior. BUT none the less, the word that I think of to describe him is PERFECT.

This was a 5 min photoshoot. I dont know how he knows what to do but with every click of my camera he changes his expression.

When he winks he says "Oink Oink" I guess it sounds like wink to him.

I just wanted to post a quick announcement that July is my last month of shooting until the middle of October. As most of you know, I will be having a baby in September and I have chosen to take all of August off to lay around my air conditioned house and complain.

I wont stop blogging, but it will become a little more of a personal blog for a couple months as I document the last days of being a mother of ONE child, to becoming a busy mother of TWO.

If you are interested in booking please call ASAP as my July is filling fast. You can also book your fall photos now as I will be taking only limited appointments thru the end of the year.

I was already feeling old after turning 29 this week and then I did these pics of my niece and her best friend and now I feel ancient. I feel like I was her age yesterday. I remember going to the mall with my best friend Charlene and getting our pic taken at one of those photo booths. The quality was horrible and the colors were worse but that pic today is priceless. We had no idea back then what HUGE decisions/choices were right around the corner. I'm glad to say that my friend Charlene is still my friend today. In fact we met for coffee yesterday. I hope the same thing is true for these two girls.

I am so excited to get started on the nursery but it's not as easy as I thought it was going to be. First I had to move my office out of the future nursery and move it to my ever shrinking studio. Now I am waiting for my husband to have a few days off so he can install the hardwood floors, paint, baseboards etc. But I did get the "very difficult" shopping out of the way. The ultasound went great this morning. The doctor had no doubts that it's a boy. We are super excited and I cant wait to start nesting. I have a huge job ahead of me going thru Rio's baby clothes and getting them organized into age groups. Speaking of Rio, he is so mad that he isnt getting a sister. I dont know why he was so set on a girl but he doesnt even want to talk about a brother.

Anyway, I am so excited. It's amazing how much more I feel bonded to HIM now that I know it's a HIM.

to blog EVERY day this week to make up for my LONG absense. I am still sick if you can believe it. My ear is still plugged and I'm getting tired of hearing myself echo inside my head. BUT the show must go on. I went back to work and have lots of fun stuff to blog.

ALSO, it is not a secret but I havent ever posted that yes I am pregnant. I am 21 weeks and looking forward to my ultrasound this Friday. I can honestly say that I dont care if it's a boy or a girl. Financially it would be fabulous to have a boy. I have everything and wouldnt have to buy anything. BUT I have to admit I have been peeking around at girl clothes and OH MY FOR CUTE! So either way I am happy.

Longest Winter EVER!

I was ticked off on Sunday morning when we woke up to SNOW. Seriously TICKED. When is it going to be green outside? When are the trees going to bloom? At this point I am looking forward to allergies. Bring it on! Anything is better than being stuck inside with a bored 3 year old with endless amounts of energy.

I am so excited to shoot outside without thaw out breaks every 10 min. Although I do have to admit that I have LOVED my studio this winter. I think I would have gone crazy without it. I love that I have full control of the light morning, noon and night.

Here are a few quick shots of my brothers baby. We had the Fam up for Sunday lunch and I couldn't resist.

This week Rio, my mom and I drove to my sisters house in New Mexico to hang out with them on their spring break. It was such a relaxing trip for me. Rio barley noticed I was there. He was totally entertained by his cousins. He cried all the way home because he wanted to go back.

Armando & Christine ~ The Wedding

So this beautiful couple had planned this ski trip to Park City a long time ago but when Armando proposed they decided make it a destination wedding. It was one of the most personal and intimate weddings I have ever photographed. They had five guests and a few wedding related people in attendance. It was very liberating for me since I am usually concerned about not ruining the view for any guests. LOVED this wedding!

The church is in the heart of historic Park City. It had beautiful lighting with the stained glass window that I couldn't get enough of. Then we went down into the Park City shops area to grab a few photos and then on to Stein Erickson for even more photos. It was truly a beautiful day for Armando and Christine. Thank you guys for hiring me from thousands of miles away and letting me be a part of your day.

I have been focusing more on studio/children's portraits is because of this little guy. I want to be with him as much as possible. So with portrait work I can be near my son and still do what I love doing. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE weddings and never plan to give them up but I do plan on limiting them more than I have in the past. Can you blame me for wanting to spend all my time with this kid?

My Personal "WISH LIST":

I LOVE these dolls. They are the perfect quiet toy for church or other quiet occasions. I plan on buying a few of these to give as gifts. Each doll is different. It also rolls up into a easy to carry package. SOOOOOO cute!

I LOVE this dress. The fabric is so chic and sweet.

These bibs are awesome. You cant tell by the photo but they are made with this really cool material that you can wipe off.

LA in January.....LOVELY

I have only been to LA in the summer months before. I could never figure out why so many stinkin people would want to live there. That was before I experienced January in LA. OH MY GOODNESS. I left Utah in a blizzard and arrived to 75 degree weather. It felt like spring. I even saw oranges on a tree. I'm sure I sound like an idiot but I was in LOVE. I rented a nice car with a navigation system. Stayed in a nice hotel where I got to sleep all alone. No offense to my handsome husband and adorable three year old but it was so nice to wake up in the middle of the bed without someone's heavy leg thrown over me and someone else's foot in my face.

I spent most of the day Saturday with this lovely couple, Aaron and Kristen, and their gracious families. Their wedding was so much fun. I got such a kick out of Aarons brother in law who was bustin some pretty crazy dance moves. Thanks Aaron and Kristen for having me. I loved being a part of your day.

My trip home was interesting. Slash was on my flight and I also saw Gio from Ugly Betty (AKA Freddy Rodriguez). I would like to think of myself as someone who acts really cool and uninterested around famous people but I have a funny feeling that I look just like all the other crazed lunatics staring and pointing. I came home to freezing arctic weather and have caught myself day dreaming about LA several times since then. Hmmmmm....here I go now...

Oh my goodness! Ok, I think I'm back. It has been a very strange month for me. First of all, it's tax time and anyone who owns their own business knows what a HUGE ordeal it is. What a beautiful wedding this was. Spring and Jason are from Phoenix but got married at the Salt Lake Temple in December. Because she was out of state she found me thru a friend of a friend. The one little guy bonded with me almost from the start and everything I did he thought was hilarious. The other twin didn't think I was funny at all. Too bad it turned out to be about 10 below zero that day and we literally had to squeeze into my tiny studio for pics. Thank goodness we live in a day where gingerbread houses come in pre-made packages. Some might strongly disagree with me but I do not miss the way it used to be done.

I have only recently discovered that I have slight creative control issues. It has really surfaced since we have been upgrading our house. It's not that I think my husbands thoughts on paint color, tile, home deco etc are wrong....I just think that mine are MUCH better. SOOOO, I had to really control my need to control tonight as I let the boys take over the gingerbread decorating. If I would have had my way it would have been decked out with perfect patterns and not a candy cane out of place. They ended up doing a great job...even tho nothing matches and there is a random gingerbread man on the roof.

So these precious boys are two months apart. Their moms are really good friends and wanted a combined shoot so that we could do a few pics of them together. I'm sure you will be able to tell from the pics that we had a great time.

We had so much fun on our vacation. I had such a busy summer that I was just mentally exhausted and really needed this time away from my computer and phone. But all good things must end and I am super happy to be home and by my computer again.

We started out in Orlando. We met my brother and family who live here in Utah and my sister and family who are from Kentucky. We rented this amazing house (which I forgot to get pics of). We did four days of Disney (2 days Magic Kingdom, 1 day Animal Kingdom and 1 day MGM). Then 1 day of SeaWorld.

Then we went to Miami Beach and stayed in this swanky hotel on the beach and got pampered a little.

For those who have not been to Miami, it is pure eye candy. Everywhere you look you see pastel colored 1930's architecture, huge mediterranean inspired homes with yachts parked out front, quaint cafe's and restaurants on every corner. Clubs thumping Cuban music can be heard from every direction. High fashion boutiques everywhere. We drove down the same street 4 times just to see everything we wanted to. I am already regretting not spending more time taking pics there but there just wasnt the opportunity.

So this morning we woke up at 2 am to get to our flight on time. By about 9 this morning I was exhausted. But sleeping on a plane is out of the question. About that time the flight attendant came on the loud speaker and made an announcement that kept me giggling (remember I am sleep deprived) ALL DAY. "Welcome Delta passengers to flight ___. We would like to point out that October is breast awareness month". Then a huge pause. By the time she came back on and tried to explain she meant breast cancer awareness the damage had been done.

I had better get to bed. I have a busy week of photos ahead of me and I cant wait to get back into it.

Literally, I am getting these made into posters for my bedroom. I was surprised how well Rio did serious because he is such a cheeser. He copies me all the time and carries one of my old flashes around pretending it's a camera and says "Say pickles mommie". Have you ever accidentally overheard someone saying nice things about you without them knowing you heard? Isn't is just the best feeling? Well that happened to me today. I was checking my website stats and noticed an unusually large amount of clicks coming from a forum. I checked it out and found that one of my former brides/friend was referring me and telling her friends how much she loved her pics and loved working with me. I was blown away. SO, I pulled out her wedding photos: circa 2005 pre-blogging days and am going to post them as thanks for her kind words. ALSO, keep an eye out for her family pics to be posted after we take them next month. She and her husband Aaron have a beautiful baby girl to show off.

I hadn't been to Vernal in about 15 years so I was really excited to go out there for this wedding. It turned out to be a beautiful wedding and a beautiful day. I have never seen dancing like I did at this wedding. The DJ was great (I'm not sure of his name) but he had me cracking up the whole night. He was dancing just as much as the guests.

Meet my nieces and nephews from Kentucky! They just left after spending a fun filled 10 days here in Utah. So all you women out there reading this blog who think they have a busy life listen to this. My sister is the mother of these four kids. The oldest are triplets and then there is the "baby". She not only takes care of these beautiful children she is a full time teacher and new librarian. You would think that is enough but no, she is also getting her Masters in her spare time. Luckily she has an amazing supportive husband. I LOVED having you all here and can't wait for next time!
